Here’s how I can help:

I work with children, adolescents, and adults of all ages including seniors.

  • Comprehensive psychiatric/psychotherapeutic evaluations*

This initial evaluation will involve both an exploration of any symptoms and concerns as well as my getting a sense of your history and present life. My detailed and thorough approach is such that I often dedicate the entire first session to this initial evaluation, and in the second session we then prioritize a discussion of my clinical impressions and treatment recommendations. Typically that’s when we’ll get our agreed-upon treatment started, unless we’re wanting more time to discuss.

In the case of individuals younger than 18-years-old, and in certain other circumstances, this initial evaluation will involve the division of time between the individual seeking treatment and their parent(s)/guardian(s) and/or other key people in their life. We would discuss and make arrangements for this before the visit.

  • Medications

Medications can be a helpful—and sometimes essential—aspect of mental health treatment for people of any age. That said, for a variety of reasons they might not be for everyone. I often work with people who have the desire to consolidate, reduce, or taper off of their medications completely. I also frequently work with people who have been on the same regimen for a while and might want to rethink it or try something different. Finally, I consult with people who want to learn about their potential options in detail but aren’t sure yet if they want to try them.

  • Psychotherapy

Specifically, I practice psychodynamic therapy, an in-depth talk therapy that can meaningfully and long-lastingly treat many psychiatric conditions, with or without concurrent medication treatment. For younger people this is usually based in play.

If you are already working with a therapist, I’ll be glad to collaborate with them.

  • Treatment collaboration with other clinicians and supports

This could include but is not limited to my collaboration with therapists, primary care doctors or other medical specialists, school counselors, and parents and families.

  • Second opinions

  • Peer-to-peer & trainee consultations

*On neuropsychological testing: Please note that I do not administer this myself. In some cases, I might request this before or during my finalization of my own impressions and initiation of treatment. I would assist with referrals to clinicians trained in this form of testing.

*On medical testing (e.g., bloodwork, imaging): In certain cases, this is warranted as part of the psychiatric diagnostic process or for ongoing monitoring of aspects of treatment (e.g., some psychiatric medications such as lithium and Depakote/divalproex sodium) require precise blood levels). It is also common that medical conditions cause or worsen psychiatric symptoms, so we need to take them into account when relevant. Similarly, I would assist with referrals to medical specialists or clinics.
